Limerick’s annual St Patrick’s Festival takes place from 13th-17th March 2010 and this year it is bigger and brighter than ever!
The National Lottery Skyfest, the 40th International Band Parade and the huge St Patrick’s Day parade offers fun for all the family and enjoyment for all ages.
This year’s parade theme of I Love Limerick encourages all participants to be creative about having pride in their city and a huge number of local, national and international groups will participate in a festival we can all be proud of!

The Limerick International Band Parade and Competition is expected to attract thousands of spectators on to the streets of the Treaty city this weekend as the 2010 Limerick St Patrick’s festival gets underway!
More than six hundred musicians from marching bands around Ireland, the USA, Germany, Africa and Northern Ireland will join Limerick’s finest to showcase their talents with adrenalin pumping music for all the family to enjoy this Sunday, March 14th at 12 noon.
One of the largest bands (80 pax) is the Pride of Acadiana band from Lafayette, Louisiana, USA who will perform in Ireland for the first time.
Other large marching bands include Banna Cluain Meana from Clonmel (100 musicians) and the 84 strong Mullingar Town Band.

Limerick skies will come alive with a kaleidoscope of colour as they play host to this year’s National Lottery Skyfest taking place on Saturday, 13th March, as part of the national St. Patrick’s Festival celebrations.
King John’s Castle, situated at the heart of Limerick’s medieval quarter and overlooking the River Shannon, will provide the backdrop to the spectacular show. Two Limerick photographers have taken the top honours in the prestigious Press Photographer of the Year Awards 2009.
Brian Gavin and Sean Curtin, both from Limerick agency Press 22 were presented with their awards at a ceremony in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin.
Sean Curtin was the first place winner in the sports features category for his image of local powerlifter Tommy Dillon who smashed the world record deadlifting 215kg in 2009 at the age of 66.
Brian Gavin’s image took first place in the news category for his picture of former Bishop of Limerick Dr Donal Murray.
Limerick photographer Noel Gavin from Allpix in Dublin was also a prizewinner in this category, taking the award for 3rd place.

Limerick is looking forward to a spectacle of entertainment, colour and fun this Sunday, February 21st as the city’s musicians, chefs and performers get together to raise funds for the Irish Red Cross efforts in Haiti.
The major city centre even Hurt for Haiti will feature over five floors of music, food and fun will be hosted by Bentley’s, The Brazen Head and Isaac Taylor’s in O’Connell Street. All proceeds will be donated to The Irish Red Cross effort in Haiti.
The day long fundraiser event kicks off at 3pm. Children are especially welcome as there will be organised kids activities taking place in the afternoon and of course, the adults will be well catered for until the wee small hours.
