Limerick’s annual St Patrick’s Festival takes place from 13th-17th March 2010 and this year it is bigger and brighter than ever!

The National Lottery Skyfest, the 40th International Band Parade and the huge St Patrick’s Day parade offers fun for all the family and enjoyment for all ages.

This year’s parade theme of I Love Limerick encourages all participants to be creative about having pride in their city and a huge number of local, national and international groups will participate in a festival we can all be proud of!

There is so much live entertainment to choose from including major parades, street theatre, live music, dance, horse racing, Strong Man challenge, sport….and much…

The National Lottery Skyfest will light up the skies over Limerick!

King John’s Castle provides a stunning backdrop to this year’s breathtaking fireworks display where dazzling colours and explosive effects will be unleashed over one of Ireland’s most well-known and cherished treasures, the River Shannon.

The fireworks will be choreographed to an amazing soundtrack curated by 2FM’s Jenny Greene.

Pre-show activity, provided by Shannon Development, kicks off from 6pm and includes live bands, fire jugglers, face painters and much more.  As an exciting lead up to the main spectacle, St. Patrick’s Festival will present street performance group Arcanna who will wow the crowds in their upbeat unique style and open the National Lottery Skyfest in a thunderous spectacular fashion. Limerick St Patrick’s Day Parade 2010

The Limerick St Patrick’s Day Parade 2010 is set to be one of the biggest ever seen in the city. Crowds in excess of 60,000 are expected to line the O’Connell Street route to watch Ireland’s second largest parade.

The theme for the St Patrick’s Day Parade is ‘I Love Limerick’ and parade performers are being encouraged to wow the crowds with the things they love most about our great city. 

 

This an opportunity to display our civic pride and to celebrate all that’s great about our culture and heritage.

All sporting, cultural, community, business and social organisations are invited to take part in the event which takes place on Wednesday, March 17th.

40th Limerick International Band Competition

This year sees a milestone for Limerick City. For the past forty years Limerick has hosted the “International Band Parade and Competition” every year, which is Ireland’s only international band competition.

This event has seen bands from all over Ireland as well as the UK, Germany, France and the United States take their place and show their style and their music prowess.

 

 
Limerick has a great musical tradition and we hope to showcase this again with the 40th anniversary of the International Band Competition. Bands of all types, abilities and sizes are welcome to participate in this International event. Last year, over 30,000 people crowded into the city to watch the parade through the streets of Limerick.

 

Prizes will be awarded in different categories including:

  • Best International Band
  • Best National Band
  • Best Local Band
  • Best Musical Performance
  • Best Dressed Group
  • Most Entertaining Performance
  • The St. Patrick’s Festival 2010 Band Parade Trophy will be awarded to the Overall Parade Champion
