Thousands of runners, visitors and tourists thronged Limerick over the May Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the city’s Riverfest 2010. The city was a hive of activity as more than 6,000 runners took part in the Great Limerick Run, hundreds entered the Great Limerick BBQ competition and many visitors enjoyed the festivities of the four day event which showcased all that is great about Limerick city, from the best resource of the river Shannon to the music, sporting, artistic and food communities.

Roger Beck from Limerick’s Parkway Shopping Centre took the top honours at the Great Limerick BBQ, a day long amateur competition, traditionally the highlight of Riverfest weekend where dishes are judged on flavour, texture and presentation. Tony Connollys Menswear won the best dressed BBQ stand while the Most Entertaining participants were the colourful ”Lava Lads from Iceland” who drew a huge crowd to a lively George’s Quay where the BBQ was based.

Thirty thousand spectators thronged the streets of Limerick as Mullingar Town Band swept the boards at the Limerick International Band Parade and Competition. Limerick City Brass and Reed won the most entertaining performance category while the Newcastle West and District Pipe Band won Best Local Band.

On Yer Bike! On Saturday 19th September, hundreds of families from all over Limerick joined Patrick Sarsfield (actor Mike Finn) for the 2009 Car Free Parade. Entertainment on the day included a spectacular action filled 1690 Battle Re-Enactment at Clancy’s Strand, a sword fencing demonstration, a military encampment display and street entertainment.
