Street Ambassadors

Jean Ryan, Street Ambassadors Team Leader,on the streets of Limerick welcoming visitors to the city, Ciro and Rosalia Crivello from SicilyIn 2006, Limerick City led the way nationally by employing the first Street Ambassadors to welcome visitors and give them information on the best places to visit, eat and shop.

The project, spearheaded by the Limerick Co-ordination Office (LCO), has returned each summer and has helped nearly 63,000 visitors and locals to date.

What is a Street Ambassador?

Limerick Street Ambassadors are a team of people who work the City Centre and undertake a number of tasks, namely:

  • Providing a warm welcome for visitors to the City Centre
  • Acting in the capacity of a “roving tourist office”
  • Offering, when needed, reliable information to both the local community and tourists
  • Providing reliable and willing interpretation of the City Centre’s history and architecture
  • Conveying a sense of pride in all of the city’s traditions and achievements
  • Conveying a feeling of civic responsibility to all users of the City Centre
  • Delivering information, newsletters etc
  • Reporting on environmental deficiencies i.e. graffiti, litter black spots etc
